Background & Challenge

The steering knuckle is one of the critical components in the steering axle of a vehicle, responsible for stabilizing the vehicle during travel and transmitting steering directions effectively. Its function involves transferring and bearing the front load of the vehicle, supporting and driving the front wheels to turn around the main axle, thereby enabling steering. Hence, there are very high requirements for the casting precision and strength of the steering knuckle. Throughout the entire casting process of the steering knuckle, which involves numerous stages and requires control over multiple pieces of equipment on a lengthy production line, distributed IO can leverage its maximum advantages.

Solution

A leading automotive components enterprise has adopted ODOT Remote IO for its automotive steering knuckle die-casting production line to facilitate on-site data transmission. This setup manages the entire die-casting process from in-place positioning, mold closure, aluminum injection, water cooling, mold opening, cleaning, to resetting. With over 400 on-site points and a 10%-15% reserve, ODOT C Series distributed IO modules accurately control temperature switches, travel switches, and pressure switches on-site. This ensures seamless die-casting of the steering knuckle, guaranteeing product quality and strength while effectively enhancing customer economic benefits.
